![]() ![]() Once you've added a reference, Zotero will automatically save the information to your library. You can also do this through your online Zotero account by selecting the resource you'd like to change and selecting the Edit button. You can change the reference type, manually edit the reference fields and add Notes and Tags by selecting the tabs above the information fields on the Zotero desktop app. If adding an item to your library from your online Zotero account, you can attach a link or a copy of the source after you've entered and saved the source's information by using the Upload Attachment button on the following page. Once you've selected your reference type, you'll be able to enter the title, author(s), and other information in the reference fields to the right of the Title box. You can also attach a link or a copy of your reference source to your newly created reference by selecting the Paper Clip icon, located to the far right of the New Item icon. More, which features numerous other source types (see picture below). ![]() ![]() If you plan on adding the item to an existing collection, click on the collection first, then click the New Item icon. To generate a bibliography from all of the items you have referenced, position your cursor where you want the bibliography to start, then click the Add/Edit Bibliography button.To add an item to Zotero, click the New Item icon at the top of the page. (See the FAQ to learn why it is important that you use Zotero to add or edit information in your citations.) If you prefer this view, you can set it as the default under Preferences > Cite > Word Processors and check "Use classic Add Citation dialog." You can also add comments and page numbers in this window, as well as selecting multiple references to be combined in one citation. This opens a window that gives you access to all of your directories and saved citations in your folder. If you click on the Z in the citation dialog, the option to look at the "Classic View" will appear. ![]() If you want to add details to a citation, such as a comment before or after, or a page number, click on the reference in the citation dialog to open a pop-up that allows you to enter the information. If you would like to insert multiple citations, continue typing after selecting the first reference. Select your citation from the options shown, then press enter. While writing your document, when you get to a point where you want to add a citation, click on the insert citation button in the toolbar and then search for the citation in your collection in the citation dialog. Installation of the plugin adds a toolbar to the LibreOffice Writer menu. Note that removing field codes is irreversible, and should usually only be done in a final copy of your document. This prevents any further automatic updates of the citations and bibliographies. Unlink Zotero citations in the document by removing the field codes. Refresh all citations and the bibliography, updating any item metadata that has changed in your Zotero library. Open the Document Preferences window, e.g. Insert a bibliography at the cursor location or edit an existing bibliography. Under the "Add-ins" tab, you will see this menu.Īdd a new citation or edit an existing citation in your document at the cursor location. Under the Zotero tab, you will see this menu. Zotero.dotm is required for Word for Windows 2007 and higher if you delete Zotero.dot from the STARTUP folder, the Add-ins tab will be removed. (On my PC, this is located at C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP). In Windows, Zotero installs two files - Zotero.dotm and Zotero.dot into the STARTUP folder. The Microsoft Word plugin will add to your menu either a Zotero tab, an Add-Ins tab, or both. In the Cite pane of the Zotero preferences (Edit > Preferences > Cite > Word Processors), open the Word Processors tab, click "Install Microsoft Word Add-in" or "Install LibreOffice Add-in", and then restart your word processor. If you don't see a Zotero tab or toolbar, follow these steps: NOTE: On some versions of Office for Mac or LibreOffice, the plugin script may not appear automatically. The plugins will allow you to insert citations as you write. The word processor plugins for Microsoft Word and LibreOffice are bundled with Zotero and should be installed automatically for each word processor when you first start Zotero. ![]()
